What is Concussion Treatment?
A concussion rarely announces itself clearly. One day you're fine, the next you're dealing with headaches that won't quit, trouble concentrating, dizziness, or a fog that makes ordinary tasks harder than they should be. If your concussion happened in a car accident, you're likely also juggling ICBC paperwork, time off work, and questions about who is actually qualified to help you get better.
It's a confusing time. You might have been told to just rest and wait it out, only to find your symptoms are still hanging around weeks later. Or you're an active person, a weekend runner, a hockey player, someone who used to move through life without thinking twice, and now you're not sure when you'll get back to that.
You're not looking for another vague timeline. You want someone who understands concussions and can tell you clearly what's happening and what to do next.
What Is Concussion Treatment?
Concussion treatment starts with understanding what actually happened. A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head, or a hit elsewhere on the body that jolts the brain inside the skull. It doesn't show up on a CT or MRI scan, which is part of why concussions can feel so disorienting.
Concussion management is a structured, hands-on approach to supporting your recovery: assessing your specific symptoms, treating the physical patterns that come with a head injury such as neck tension, dizziness, and balance issues, and guiding your return to school, work, sport, or daily life at a pace your body can handle. This is not a substitute for seeing a physician. Physician support is an essential part of concussion recovery, and concussion management works best alongside your doctor's care, not instead of it.
